Knowing that a third person is making your marriage fight is one of the most frustrating things that can happen. Cynthia is having a hard time with her husband lately because he wants to take short vacations with his mother and leaves Cynthia to watch the kids at home. Cynthia asked us for help because she feels like she can’t take it any longer.

Here is the letter from Cynthia:

“My husband and I have been married for seven years, and our two boys are six and four years old.” He’s a good husband, but his mother loves to spoil him because he’s her only son. She has never liked me, though.

My husband’s mother-in-law goes to a resort that is only open to members, and she recently started taking him with her on the weekends because he likes surfing there. “Someone has to take care of the kids,” she says, so she leaves me behind.

I told my husband about this, and he said, “I’m really stressed out at work.” Saturday and Sunday surfing helps me unwind and be a better husband and dad to you and our kids. He then said, “If you can’t handle it, then maybe you should find a hobby that relaxes you too.” I was furious.

To my horror, he said, “You’ve treated my mom with indifference all these years; no wonder she doesn’t want you during her getaways.”

I can’t believe how immature my husband is, and the way his mother acts makes things even worse for us. What should I do?
