A recently divorced woman transforms a 10’x11′ shed into a charming tiny home

Many people are trying out the tiny home lifestyle.

They have many different reasons for switching to small houses.

A lot of those switched to tiny home living for environmental reasons. They want to be more mindful in their everyday living and have a smaller carbon footprint.

Some want to switch to a simple, minimalistic lifestyle.

Living in a tiny home forces homeowners to downsize their belongings, live simpler, and be more intentional.

Tiny homes are also easier to clean and maintain! They’re low-cost and easier to move around.

Heather is a world traveler plus a van lifer.

She decided to settle down from van life to a house because of the pandemic and get her bearings after her divorce, too.

And, of course, because she’s been living in a van, it’s only natural that she’d be moving into a tiny home.

But transforming a 10″x 11″ shed into a tiny home? Is that possible?

For Heather, it is! And this is also going to be the first home she owns.

When you look at it from the outside, it is pretty bare. She didn’t do a lot of work, just what she currently needs, because who knows what she’ll be doing or if she’s still living there a year later.

It may be bare but it has everything she needs.

When you enter the shed, she has a workspace to her right, which looks out into the window. Such magnificent views to look at every day and be inspired (or distracted, depending on the day) for work.

On the left, she has a small, cozy living room, where she also installed a swinging desk to place her laptop for movie nights.

And she has pillows, lots of pillows on her couch.

Right across the entryway, Heather has her fireplace/kitchen/toilet.

On the left side, she has a wood stove, which, although more expensive than she expected, provided the warm comfort she needed when it was damp and rainy. And it’s the perfect antidote for winter weather.

From the middle to the right side, you’ll find the kitchen. It’s not a big kitchen.

It does have a sink but Heather hasn’t installed a proper water disposal system yet so she doesn’t use it other than store dirty dinnerware. She uses a camping stove, which is perfect because she only cooks for one.

On top of the kitchen are her open shelves, which proudly display her glassware and plates. And this is where her pantry staples are also stored.

Her small fridge is a hand-me-down from her mom and where she’s placed all the fridge magnets she collected from her travels.

Believe it or not, she does have plenty of drawers and storage in the shed for her food, her shoes, clothes, and even her books, including her composting toilet underneath the sink.

And on the very top of her tiny home, near the roof and up the living room, she has her loft bedroom.

It’s not the perfect design but it’s the right solution for the space she has.

Besides, she only uses it for sleeping anyway.

“The thing I love about the whole space is just the vibe of it,” Heather shared. “For the first time in my life, I had control over what I wanted and I really like that it’s open and airy. It feels like indoor/outdoor living. It’s just having a safe space that’s my own that makes me feel inspired to create.”

Heather did such a great job making this very tiny house into a beautiful home.
